Pistorius treated at South African hospital; back to jail

He has returned to jail after being surrounded by an armed guard in hospital.

"He is in a hospital wing of the prison in a single cell and is closely monitored", he said.

The Blade Runner claimed his wounds were sustained after falling from his bed in Pretoria's Kgosi Mampuru prison.

When the South African news service IOL contacted the prison for more information, officials would only confirm that Pistorius was first attended to at the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison where he is now serving a six-year jail term.

While Oscar Pistorius has only started his six-year sentence for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp it seems that prison life is too much for the former Olympic hero.

He has already served one year in the jail. She was hit in the head, hip and arm. As she fell to the floor wounded, the final two bullets hit her in the head, which killed her instantly.

The prescribed minimum sentence for murder in South Africa is 15 years - but a judge can reduce that penalty in some circumstances.

Per the AP, Pistorius denied he had attempted suicide.

Barry Steenkamp broke down in the witness box as he told the court how he and his wife have struggled to cope since his daughter's murder.

He was originally found guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced to five years' jail.

"Oscar Pistorius denied speculations of a suicide attempt", said Nxumalo.

The Department of Correctional Service's Spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela, says they will further investigate the incident.

The report added that blades were found in Pistorius' cell during a search Saturday afternoon.

He called reports the athlete had tried to injure himself "completely untrue and sensational".

Pistorius' family declined to comment, referring inquiries to the correctional services department.

Disgraced sprinter Pistorius won gold medals at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympics in Athens, Beijing and London respectively.

Neighbours said they heard screaming throughout the night.
