Chargers put Allen on IR, activate Bosa day after big loss

The excitement was obvious based on the noise coming out of the Kansas City Chiefs' locker room after they overcame a 21-point deficit to beat San Diego in overtime on Sunday in their regular-season opener.

The Kansas City Chiefs playoff run ended last season amid criticisms about clock management, but Sunday's historic come-from-behind victory over San Diego shows the team may have found the formula for late-game rallies.

Allen, 24, has suffered multiple season ending injuries in his career.

As you can see from Gehlken's tweet, the corresponding move the team made was to activate Joey Bosa.

And coach Mike McCoy had no real answers - or at least ones he wanted to make public - about why the San Diego Chargers collapsed in a 33-27 overtime loss at Kansas City on Sunday.

Look, the defense stepped up when it mattered, limiting the Chargers to only 34 yards in their last 11 carries. He missed half of last season after suffereing a lacerated kidney in Week 8, and actually slid in the 2012 National Football League draft due to a lingering knee injury.

The Chiefs did a good job of making a comeback last week, but it's hard to ignore they were dominated by the subpar San Diego Chargers for three quarters. But then the Chargers went away from him in the second half.

The Giants (1-0) won the debut of coach Ben McAdoo after 12 years and two Super Bowl titles under Tom Coughlin while spoiling the first game for Dallas' Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. Deciding against a punt that would have pinned the Chiefs deep in their own territory, McCoy tried a 54-yard field goal. The game-tying drive started with just one minute, 49 seconds remaining and required just four plays in 46 seconds. For the rest of the 4th quarter and overtime the Chiefs gained 270 yards and scored four touchdowns on four drives.

"I wouldn't say we lack a killer instinct", he said.

The end result probably wasn't all that surprising to those who paid no attention to what happened during the game and just saw the final score. "It was not a lack of focus at all".

To add insult to injury, the Chargers blew a 24-3 lead, falling to the Chiefs 33-27.

The No. 3 overall pick out of Ohio State, Bosa missed all of training camp and the preseason while embroiled in a contract dispute with the club.

Reid did not know whether Charles would be ready to return next Sunday against the Houston Texans.

That tells me, basically, that he either (a) has a secret plan to solve all the problems or (b) has no clue how to fix it. I see him on a day-to-day basis in practice, and some of the things that he does great don't show up on field. "At the end of the day, we've got to close it".

Ware only carried the ball 11 times during the game but was the most efficient runner by our Net Expected Points (NEP) metric - NEP measures the value of each play on the field based on how an average team would be expected to perform, according to historical data.

Amazingly, we've gotten nearly two-thirds through this column without mentioning the other devastating part of Sunday's opener.
