RHP Jake Odorizzi pitched seven innings to a no-decision Monday in the Rays' 3-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said on Wednesday that All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson is set to undergo an MRI on the hip, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. Which has now become just sort of above average but hardly feared. "I guess when things are going bad they stay there for a bit".
"The good thing is things can't get worse".
"When I hit the base it was more some other things that were going on".
Toronto has lost four straight series for the first time since June 30 to July 12, 2015. Toronto had held sole possession of the division lead as recently as September 5.
"Great", he said. "I'm glad we did it with a win". "So I'm optimistic that this will turn and turn in a hurry". The St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners are the other clubs to have exceeded the 200-homer plateau in 2016.
In the midst of his longest hitless streak (23 at-bats) since being traded to Toronto, Donaldson hopes to return for the team's seven-game road trip beginning Thursday against the Angels. Toronto and Baltimore are two games behind Boston in the East.
The first series at Rogers Centre will be a two-game interleague clash against the Milwaukee Brewers, starting with the home opener on Tues., April 11. But as the game wore on, the Blue Jays' struggles began peeking through.
That didn't change much in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the last-place Rays, as the Jays (79-65) scattered nine hits but stranded seven runners in agonizing fashion. They failed to score more than three runs for the 21st time in their last 41 games. Brad Miller continued the fourth with a walk, took second when Nick Franklin grounded out to first and scored on Dickerson's single.
"He's one of those guys that's had our number", Gibbons said. "I don't think anybody's down".
But they need those wins.
It's all part of the game, he said.
"The whole morale of the team is confident, we just have to go out there and do it". We have to find a way to do it.
"Nothing's really been working out lately".
SNELL GAME: LHP Blake Snell said tonight's start in Baltimore is "huge" as he works to reverse a recent skid and put a good finish on his rookie season, targeting a lack of aggressiveness in the strike zone as his primary problem. Souza's came off of Joe Biagini before the Jays needed four pitchers to get three outs in the ninth (granted Brett Cecil worked a clean eighth inning).
ATHLETICS 8, ROYALS 0: Yonder Alonso and Marcus Semien hit two-run doubles as Oakland beat Kansas City for the third straight game and further damaged the Royals' postseason chances.
Atkins added that the team will know more about the extent of Donaldson's injury - and whether he will miss more games - after an MRI scheduled later Wednesday. But he also insisted he didn't feel a sense of panic.
"It never really got to where I felt comfortable with it, so we went and had it looked at today and we'll get the results, hopefully, tonight", Donaldson said.
Toronto's Devon Travis doubled to lead off the first and scored on Edwin Encarnacion's sacrifice fly, but the Blue Jays didn't get another hit until Dioner Navarro's one-out single in the seventh. The Red Sox lead the AL East by one game over the Orioles and two over the Blue Jays.
