Arizona unemployment rate drops to 5.2 percent in October

This is the fourth month in a row that the Bureau of Labor Statistics has found that the number of jobs in CT has fallen.

"Our worst-case job scenario seems to be unfolding at the worst possible time when the domestic economy is also showing signs of weakness", Klepper-Smith said.

"Connecticut's two monthly measures of labor market health continue to send mixed signals", said Andy Condon, director of the department's Office of Research.

The U.S. jobless rate was 4.9 percent in October.

There has been little change in Rhode Island's jobless rate since last October, when it stood at 5.6 percent. The labor force participation rate for Black women remained at 62.3 percent the same mark set in September, but the employment-population ratio weakened slightly edging down from 58 percent in September to 57.9 percent in October. "Michigan's labor force growth of 1.5 percent so far in 2016 has outpaced the national gain of 1.2 percent".

It lost 5,700 jobs in trade, transportation and utilities; 1,900 in manufacturing; 1,200 in leisure and hospitality; 700 in financial activities; 500 in information; and 200 in construction.

With the latest jobs losses, CT has recovered just less than 70 percent of the jobs the state lost during the last recession, Klepper-Smith said.

Economist Don Klepper-Smith, in a note to clients, added that CT is severely lagging the country in terms of the percentage of jobs regained after the recession. But they say the predicted falling unemployment rate should help part-time workers who want full-time jobs.

Jobs in September: The state gained 8,100 jobs in September compared to the previously published 5,100 job gain estimate.
