Thanksgiving Shoppers Up, Average Spend Down

Adobe's latest insights are based on aggregated and anonymous data from 22 billion visits to retail websites, and claims to measure 80% of all online transactions from the top 100 US retailers, the equivalent of $7.50 of every $10 spent with the top 500 retailers goes through Adobe Marketing Cloud. According to data from Adobe, Black Friday brought in almost half a billion dollars by 8:30am EST on pace to reach $3 billion by the end of the day-a growth of more than 11% over previous year.
Online shoppers set a record today for the most sales ever rung up in a single day by consumers using mobile devices.
Kohl's department stores reported record Thanksgiving sales, a bright spot for the department store chain, which like others has seen a dip in same-store sales, as online retail has claimed more of the consumer's dollar.

Mobile accounted for 40 per cent of sales, with 29 per cent from smartphones, and 11 per cent for tablets.
Customer traffic at malls and stores paled in front of online sales that surged towards the end of the day. About three-quarters of people's purchasing power - $214.13 - went toward buying gifts.
She felt like prices were better than in past years.
"That's why I so aggressively pushed to have it done in October", he said. The estimate marks a 33 percent increase over last year's mobile sales total for the day.
Amazon said Black Friday would surpass past year in terms of the number of items ordered on its website. Mall of America is suspending operations on the holiday, though individual stores in the mall can choose to stay open.
