How does Clemson's title impact Georgia Football?

There were plenty of standout performers to choose from for the Clemson Tigers last night as they upset the seemingly unbeatable Alabama Crimson Tide 35-31 to win their first national title since 1981; only the second football national title in school history.

"Both just incredibly special", Swinney said. "This team was a pretty good football team but we were a pretty good football team too". Watson smiled right after the score and looked at the clock. "We came up a little short a year ago, but today on top of the mountain, the Clemson flag is flying".

For years to come, Clemson fans will be discussing the feats of quarterback Deshaun Watson and diminutive wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, who caught the game-winner.

But if the Crimson Tide offense isn't scoring, they've been able to rely on their defense to add some points of their own.

"Everything was calm, and nobody panicked", Watson said.

I never would have thought Alabama was beatable with a 2-0 advantage on turnovers, but that just goes to show how much Clemson wanted this. "The Heisman lost out on him".

Alabama did have what has been hailed as possibly the best defense ever and the best coach while Clemson walked in with the best player in the country and a coach that is motivated to get that Saban status.

It took a game for the ages and a performance for the ages from Watson (36 of 56 for 420 yards and three touchdowns and another TD on the ground) to slay college football's Goliath. The running game of Alabama was successful with 221 total yards on the ground, but it wasn't enough.

"Big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games", Clemson receiver Mike Williams said. "We worked so hard for it and we fell short last year.I don't even know what to say".

Watson drove Clemson 68 yards in nine plays in two minutes after Alabama had taken the lead on freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts' 30-yard touchdown run that appeared to give the Crimson Tide its second straight national title.

The Crimson Tide played nearly the last 20 minutes without tailback Bo Scarbrough, who was injured after amassing 93 yards on 16 carries.

"It's one thing when somebody in the media is saying they don't think you're going to win a game or that you'll win your conference", Fornelli wrote. I've enjoyed every single moment since I came in, in January of 2014.

After the Tigers (14-1) took their first lead - 28-24 with 4:38 left in the game when Wayne Gallman surged in from 1 yard out - Alabama answered. The Tide finished 2 of 15 on third downs, and all the three-and-outs led to 99 offensive plays by Clemson and a exhausted Alabama defense late in the game.

Alabama (14-1), which had the chance to go wire-to-wire as No. 1, lost its first game since September 19, 2015, ending a 26-game win streak.

A pass interference on Alabama made it first-and-goal at the 2 with six seconds left.
