The Belgium captain has regained his form after he was below par last season in Chelsea's worst defence season. Certainly, coming under the influence of pragmatic coaches like Mourinho and Conte will do that to a player, though as Hazard revealed to Thierry Henry recently, Conte's influence has been largely tactical and more "big picture" than even Mourinho.
And Wenger - who watched from the stands as he continues to serve a touchline ban - says his side's defensive nous and creativity in attack left much to be desired, and suggested the 2-1 home loss to Watford the previous Tuesday had damaged their belief more than he thought. "We're a little bit disappointed with the goal we conceded but it was a very good performance from everyone". It's not just me.
"Certain players individually were not at their best and when you are very young and inexperienced and there seems to me players who are not playing at their best level, well that hurts".
The Belgian is confident he can score more goals this season, and his hit 10 at a rate of a goal every 191 minutes - far better than his 2014/15 tally of a goal every 241 minutes.
"We played a great match", said the defender.
"Sometimes in the past, for 20 or 30 minutes, I've not touched the ball in some games". But now I try to touch the ball all the time and play my football for my team-mates.
"When we don't have the ball, he wants me to defend, to close inside and when we do have it I have to counterattack and be free, always trying to do some "magic".
