Immediately after Panneerselvam's revelation, the AIADMK legislators met under the leadership of Sasikala at the Poes Garden Residence and, around 1am on Wednesday, she came out and told the media that Opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is behind Panneerselvam's revolt.
K. Manickam was the first MLA to side with OPS.
Panneerselvam's shocking revelations about how he was forced to resign have sent ripples across Tamil Nadu. Supporters of OPS are now distributing phone numbers and contact details of the MLAs, asking people to build pressure on them to support him.
Kamal Hassan didn't mince his words and said Sasikala's proximity to Jayalalitha is no reason for her to become the CM of Tamil Nadu. Soon, Hari was removed from the IT wing, which only seemed to embolden the resolve he and others in support of OPS had displayed.
After keeping away from the state for three days since the crisis broke out, Governor Vidyasagar Rao will visit Chennai on Thursday to put an end to the crisis. "I have performed my duty without any shortcomings and carried forward path shown by Amma", ANI reported him as saying.
Addressing media again on Wednesday, he said Jayalalithaa's death would be thoroughly investigated following so-far unsubstantiated rumors of foul play.
"There are some truths that I want to tell to my party cadre and to the people of this country".
AIADMK leaders retaliated, however, that Panneerselvam is an opportunist and a liar who did not have the backing of lawmakers.
MK Stalin had clarified earlier, "DMK has nothing to do with AIADMK's internal squabbles".
Adding that an urgent listing of the PIL is essential he said "We are here to challenge the constitutional petition, we are in the process of getting urgent listing in this matter as anytime from now Sasikala can take swearing".
Panneerselvam said he was offered the CM's post twice by Jayalalithaa but he had declined and that when Sasikala and her ilk kept insisting, even as Jayalalithaa's condition worsened, that if someone other than Sasikala is chosen for the post it will bring ill-repute to the party, he was forced to accept. A political party has to always go back to the people for a fresh mandate, and it is then that people's anger will manifest as rejection. He said the commission would investigate thoroughly and submit its report.
"I have spent 33 years in this house with Amma". The charges were made by Pandian, a day after London-based specialist Richard Beale, Apollo and government doctors ruled out poisoning as the cause of Jayalalithaa's death and asserted that there was "no conspiracy" or mystery in either the line of treatment or what led to her end. "But thought maybe I was unfortunate and a sinner not to have seen her in the hospital". The news was deliberately planted by someone on Amma's health condition.
"Only after that she was hospitalised during which the entire drama happened", Pandian alleged.
