Will Arnett Prank Calls a Toy Store as LEGO Batman

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for The Lego Ninjago Movie this week, and the film based on the popular line of Lego toys and cartoon series follows a formula that should be familiar to fans of the two aforementioned Lego features: Combine a amusing script with a fantastic voice cast and let the magic happen. Anyway, smart of Warner to put this trailer out in front of The LEGO Batman Movie, as I'm pretty sure the Ninjago name doesn't carry as much weight on its own. Committed to lunacy while paying homage to the varied legacy of Batman over the decades, "The Lego Batman Movie" might be the common ground that satisfies both camps. The Lego Batman Movie is coming to cinemas this weekend, and Lego Dimensions celebrates it with three new packs from Year 2.

Jackie Chan, Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña and Zach Woods star in the third movie in the Lego franchise. The screenplay is by Hilary Winston & Bob Logan & Paul Fisher, story by Kevin Hageman & Dan Hageman and Hilary Winston & Bob Logan & Paul Fisher, based on LEGO Construction Toys.

Meanwhile director Chris McKay (animation co-ordinator on the first Lego Movie and a veteran of the Robot Chicken series) summons the ghosts of Caped Crusaders past, invoking the camp Sixties series and the heavy metal po-facedness of the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight era.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters September 22.

The original Lego Movie showed that, if you build it, they will come, and this sequel delivers just as many laughs and moments of pure joy.
