Butler revealed as top four NCAA seed

The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee released its first edition of the top 16 seeds for March Madness on Saturday.

Kansas, Baylor, Villanova and Gonzaga were picked as No. 1 seeds with the Wildcats selected as the overall No. 1.

The rankings show the top four teams in each region.

North Carolina was the fifth overall seed and would play in the South, which also includes Florida and Butler.

UCLA still has six games left and being two games behind Pac-12 leading Arizona (the overall #9 seed), they need to focus on winning the conference.

So, not only has UCLA fallen from being a potential top seed in the West, they've fallen out of the West Region completely. The Mountaineers were the No. 4 seed in the West in the NCAA selection committee's early look Saturday.

The top 16 teams in college basketball now know where they stand. The panel unveiled its top 16 seeds (the top four in each region) ahead of the bracket's full reveal on March 12.

The committee placed the Wildcats, now ranked No. 2 in the nation, in the East Region, in which the semifinals and finals will be played at Madison Square Garden in NY.

Hollis said the committee did not produce an entire 68-team bracket because it did not want to project the results of the 32 conference tournaments that determine automatic bids. While Wisconsin and Purdue will be safely in the field, this could be awful news for the conference's bubble teams, such as Michigan State, Indiana, Minnesota and Michigan.

"This is what was requested by the (National Association of Basketball Coaches)", Hollis said. FSU was listed as the No. 6 overall team by the committee.

Hollis mentioned Purdue and WIsconsin among other teams who were "in the mix". First- and second-round games will air on TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV.
