DMK's hunger strike on February 22 against what happened in TN assembly

Palaniswami is set to seek a vote of confidence on February 18 in the state assembly.

Assembly speaker P. Dhanapal left the House escorted by marshals amid the chaos.

The DMK leader was detained and was let off later.

He also emphasised that the will of the people and not that of factions outside political sphere should prevail.

"When the confidence motion was moved, I rose and demanded to conduct secret voting to enable the MLAs to cast their vote in a fair and free manner following their conscience". Lot of drama was reported in TN Assembly ahead of its floor test.

The DMK, Congress and IUML had said they will vote against the Palaniswami government. "It is indeed a sorry state of affairs that all the DMK legislators in the House were evicted en-masse and Stalin had been assaulted in an un-civilised manner", Narayanasamy was quoted as saying by PTI.

During their separate meetings with Mr Rao on Sunday, Mr Panneerselvam and the DMK demanded nullification of the trust vote alleging that the motion was adopted by contravening rules of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He had also requested the speaker for a secret ballot.

To add more masala to the event, DMK has chose to vote against EPS and Tamil Nadu Congress has made a decision to go along with DMK, as instructed by Rahul Gandhi.

Mediapersons were seen arguing with the police outside the assembly, following which the audio speaker in the press room was disconnected.

Sitting MLA Semmalai, who was appointed as the party whip by the O Panneerselvam camp said, "The battle is over and the war has just begun".

Palaniswami mustered a floor strength of 122 as against his claim of 124 MLAs supporting him and in a 235-member assembly, one seat was vacant following J. Jayalalithaa's death, which triggered the imminent in-fighting for the throne.

"MLAs should be given time to hear the views of their constituency people".

"Sasikala asked for a TV set to watch the Assembly session but we refused", a jail official said.
