What Does The Red X Mean? It's A Poignant Symbol

The day raises awareness about modern-day human trafficking, which currently claims about 21 million people worldwide, according to End Slavery Now.
Almost 21 million people - including 1.5 million in North America - are forced into human trafficking, according to an International Labour Organization report from 2012. It includes sex trafficking, domestic servitude, forced labor and child labor.
You are likely to see a lot of red Xs on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Thursday as politicians, celebrities and others support the "Shine a Light on Slavery Day". Participants can follow suit and change their profile picture to a red "X" or draw an "X" on their hand in red lipstick and take a picture to share using the hashtag #EndItMovement.
The campaign has gained prominence in recent years thanks in part to U.S. Sen.
