The Blues' 2-1 win against West Ham on Monday night saw them retain their 10 point lead over second placed Tottenham on the Premier League standings.
Afobe was then denied by Randolph as the Hampshire side pressed for a third goal, but as the final whistle loomed, West Ham began to look the more threatening and duly made it 2-2 with eight minutes left.
In February 2016 Payet signed a new five-year contract with the Hammers, which gave the player a significant pay rise, believed to be double the money he was previously on.
Bournemouth continued to create chances, but failed to get the ball into the net and they paid for their mistakes when Andre Ayew equalised for the Hammers in the 82nd minute, which seemed to have earned a point for Slaven Bilic's men.
"You could say I was bored". It was never the match where Payet realised, as he claims, that he was in the wrong place; that had occurred six months earlier.
I was going through matches without any pleasure. I think we lost to the champions. Claiming he was "going backwards as a player", Payet has effectively hit back at co-owner David Gold who accused the France global of a "betrayal" following the player's refusal to play for West Ham.
The player himself said he wanted to make the move for personal reasons, but - in an interview with L'Equipe - Payet has now revealed that the poor nature of the team's play was also a contributing factor. I needed another challenge. We discussed it at the start of the season when I returned from Euro 2016, but the club closed the door and I respected their choice.
"After a good result at Manchester United, there has been a buzz around the training ground and I just had a feeling it was going to be good". The club shut the door. I'm happy with him, great professional, great left foot.
At West Ham, Payet could have built himself a legacy that would have survived beyond his transitional career as a player.
