The Chenani-Nashri tunnel, built with new Austrian tunnel technology, has a series of smart safety features - all functioning through a single software. The tunnel is also equipped with advanced scanners to ward off any security threat. It is part of the National Highway Authority of India's project between Jammu and Srinagar, along National Highway 44.

124 cameras and a linear heat detection system inside the tunnel will alert an Integrated Tunnel Control Room (ITCR) located outside to monitor and intervene.

SOS Boxes = This tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar highway has SOS boxes at every 150 meters.

FM Radio = A special FM frequency has been announced. These cross passages can be used for evacuation of vehicles and commuters in case of breakdown or any other emergency.

According to Chandwar, in tunnels overseas such safety techniques require a separate software for every feature, making it hard to be handled.

Mr Modi drove in an open jeep through the all-weather route, which is expected to help trade and tourism in the region. If any vehicle stops, the control room will be alerted and help will be provided instantly.

The PM also added that nine such tunnels are also in the pipeline.
