Milwaukee Brewers' Orlando Arcia (3) and Jonathan Villar react after turning a double play on a ball hit by Chicago Cubs' Ben Zobrist during the 10th inning of a baseball game Friday, April 7, 2017, in Milwaukee.
Heyward was not in the lineup Saturday night. Monday was an off-day and the teams returned to action Tuesday, were rained out Wednesday then finished the series on Thursday. During the collision, Heyward's forearm connected with Baez's face.
"I felt good about giving us a chance, but bad about giving up a hit at the most inopportune time of my outing", Anderson said.
ROYALS 5, ASTROS 1: Jason Vargas got his first win in almost two years, and Kansas City beat Houston. The 6-foot-5 lefty played two seasons of hoops for St. John's while already a Reds minor leaguer. Lefty Brett Anderson will make his season debut for the Cubs. Over the first 226 games of his career, he has totaled 231 strikeouts and just 34 walks. Anderson, who missed nearly all of last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers because of a back injury, has settled in with the Cubs and is looking to start the season on a high note. I couldn't see what hit me until I watched the video. "But I wasn't feeling really strongly about it at that moment". "The outing in Houston (on Thursday) will get you closer to that adrenaline level and atmosphere and get ready for the regular season".
Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson set the tone, striking out eight over six innings in his first start of the season. The Cubs allowed just one Brewers baserunner through the next four innings while Milwaukee escaped a big jam in the 10th when Jared Hughes loaded the bases with one out but got an inning-ending double play. "Good approach for him, good sinker, good slider behind the count", catcher Manny Pina said.
"But from a personal standpoint, healthwise, bodywise, giving us a chance to win, I was overall pleased with that".
The Kansas City Royals were 5-1 winners against the Houston Astros, the Cincinnati Reds shut out the St Louis Cardinals 2-0, the Detroit Tigers topped the Boston Red Sox 6-5, the Arizona Diamondbacks claimed a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-1, the Los Angeles Angels eased past the Seattle Mariners 5-1 and the Atlanta Braves went down 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pitching in his third inning of work, Montgomery (0-2) opened the 11th with a base hit to Braun and a flyout by Travis Shaw.
