This will be Brolin's second big (literally) role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - he's also playing the big bad, Thanos, in "Avengers: Infinity Wars".
Representatives for the actor said that Brolin has been set to play the part of Cable in 20th Century Fox's Deadpool 2 opposite lead Ryan Reynolds.
Other actors who were rumoured to be considered for Cable, a mutant super soldier from the future who has been both an enemy and ally to Deadpool in the comic books, included David Arbour (Stranger Things), Pierce Brosnan (James Bond), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire), and Nathan Fillion (Firefly).
And now, he's the time traveling son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor in Deadpool 2.
Josh Brolin as Thanos in the Avengers.
He'll now work alongside actor Ryan Reynolds, who reprises his role of the titular character in "Deadpool 2".
With Cable and Domino now confirmed as major characters in the Deadpool sequel, and reports saying Brolin's deal is for four movies, it seems more likely than ever that Twentieth Century Fox (which owns the rights to anything X-Men related on film) has an "X-Force" movie franchise in their sights. Production is projected to start in June in Vancouver, with David Leitch ("John Wick") at the helm.
Cable plays the straight man to the wisecracking Deadpool in the Marvel comics. I think Fox made a flawless choice with Josh Brolin and I think that's the spice we need for a sequel for Deadpool.
