Johnson, McIlroy betting favorites on 2017 Masters odds

Spieth seems to be in a good frame of mind as he enters his fourth career Masters. Spieth has played in three Masters, and never finished lower than second.

Spieth will give the hole due respect when he faces it in competition Thursday for the first time since last year's fateful stumble.

The Texan reached the 12th tee with a one-stroke lead and walked off the green after a quadruple-bogey left him three shots behind new leader and eventual victor Danny Willett. "Obviously, it wouldn't be in my nature to bring it up".

Asked about dealing with the memories of a year ago, the world No 6 added: "It will surely be there and it has been".

"I think a lot of Curtis's game". I feel like I've been right to y'all in that sense and no one's told me otherwise. "But I don't think I'll ever hear the end of that".

"I'm very, very pleased and very, very happy with how things have progressed from the start of the year to now". "The ball that I'm playing at the minute, it's quite spinny". And I felt like I handle situations better out here than other places.

Spieth's 2015 victory here holds a special place in his heart as his first major championship. "Because you really never know what's going to happen".

But his emotions were admittedly confused when he drove up Magnolia Lane the first time he returned after last year's collapse.

"I'm a little bit under prepared to be honest", Day said. "You can just multiple that by 100", Day said about what winning Sunday would mean. But [I'm] confident that we can get out there and get off to the same kind of start that we have in the past.

Per the latest from OddsShark, DJ leads the field at 11-2, while McIlroy is backed at 7-1 and Spieth at 8-1.

Mention that he is the first player in more than 40 years to arrive at the Masters having won his last three tournaments, and Johnson will shrug and say that his game is solid, he's working hard and that he's playing pretty well.

Though he did recently miss the cut at the Shell Houston Open, Spieth still carries with him some semblance of momentum. He spoke of bringing her to Augusta National this week to have her nearby while he competes in the Masters, but he is anxious she's still a bit too weak after the surgery.

"It's my favorite tournament".

"I've always liked the course since I came here", Johnson said. "But they are all just as good athletes, eye-hand coordination, second to none, speed, power, all that".

He won't be short on tips for the 18 holes this coming week having played practice rounds in the last few days with Jason Day, Adam Scott and one of The Masters favourite's Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy has made a believer out of 81-year-old South African legend Gary Player. Most impressively, he responded from his quadruple bogey by carding a birdie on two of the next three holes. I had a chance the go, and I thought, I'll go, because I just want to see what it's like and when I do come, I might not be as awestruck. "And if it doesn't happen this year, then I'll be ready the next year to do it".
