Bulls guard Rajon Rondo out indefinitely with broken thumb

CHICAGO (AP) - The Boston Celtics got pep talks from a past champion as well as their current superstar.

The Celtics find themselves in a hole early in the series and will be looking to get on the winners' board before the series gets any worse for them than it already is.

Jerian Grant knows he has to be better in Game 4. After viewing Garnett's video, IT played it for his teammates with the audio coming through the speakers, and the Celtics played as though they heard KG's message loud and clear.

"Like I said, it was a reminder of Celtics family". "It was just a little motivation speech". This team looked completely different from the team that dropped two games in Boston. "We can't change our approach just because one of our star players is out. Basically that's all he was saying, with a little more KG into it".

Dwyane Wade scored 18 for Chicago. Wade said after Friday's loss that Chicago can't afford to use Rondo's absence as an excuse. "It sounds like he's going to be out for a while". The Celtics were able to come through, with a commanding 17-point victory. Thomas, the Celtics' top offensive threat, has been grappling with the loss of his sister Chyna, who died last Saturday in a single-car accident. Taj Gibson added 20 points and Andre Roberson and Victor Oladipo each scored 12 for the Thunder, who shot 55 percent from the field.

"That was our only goal for this game was (to) just get the win no matter what for us to have a chance to make it a series", Crowder said.

We'll have up-to-the-minute scoring and stats here throughout the game.

Gerald Green, in the lineup at the "4" position for Amir Johnson, moved Horford to the center position and provided some early spark with drives to the paint.

Green's presence helped space the floor at the start of both halves, and he battled through a twisted ankle to play 20 minutes.

Boston hit the gas pedal and never looked back.

However, only US$3 million (AU$3.9 million) of his 2017-18 salary will be guaranteed if the Bulls release the guard before June 30.

Despite the game three loss, the Bulls still have the advantage and have another home game to take a commanding 3-1 lead back to MA. The Bulls once again dominated the glass by 52-37 but that couldn't make up for their poor shooting. But Boston responded, stretching the lead to double digits with a run that included back-to-back three-pointers from Thomas.

Boston managed to maintain that lead through the game. The Celtics led by as many as 20 points in the second quarter, but they connected on only 5-of-22 shots from the field as the Bulls almost erased the deficit.

The Bulls closed to within a point in the first minute of the second half. Nikola Mirotic nailed a three-pointer, cutting it to 44-41, and pointed toward the sky.

"It's been a hard week, he's had his ups and downs", Stevens said. Rondo will wear a cast to stabilize a previous wrist injury and will be re-evaluated next week when the cast is removed. The Bulls desperately need him to bounce back in Game 4.

He watched from the sideline and got in on the action to some extent late in the first quarter.

However, Rondo set social media buzzing after apparently sticking out his leg while Celtics forward Jae Crowder passed by the Bulls bench after making a triple.
