Spurs headed into the semi-final tie against Premier League rivals Chelsea as favourites, but they were on the back foot after just five minutes when Willian put the Blues ahead.
Chelsea had lost two out of four their last four games in the Premier League in April with last Sunday's loss to Manchester United cutting their lead at the summit of the league to four points.
With all the talk in the build up to the game focused on Antonio Conte's decision to leave Hazard and Diego Costa on the bench, Hazard admitted his manager had got it spot on.
Reflecting on the loss, Pochettino said: "We played well but they were clinical and when you are clinical in football it's so hard to win, and they were more clinical than us. It's not easy to decide to start the game without two important players, Hazard and Diego, but I think you must take this responsibility and you must involve your players in your plan and then take this risk".
'I am very happy for the team because we are going to play a final.
Paul Gascoigne was Tottenham's hero the last time they won on such an occasion in 1991, but Pochettino insisted he could not be concerned by such trivialities and pointed towards the progress White Hart Lane's current vintage are making. Harry Kane and Dele Alli cancelled out Willian's double before the pair were eventually introduced, with Hazard providing the telling intervention. But I think the fans know the project.
"On Tuesday, I want our supporters to be players on the pitch".
Speaking afterwards, Matic was keen to congratulate Spurs for their valiant efforts while expressing his joy at having helped set up yet another Wembley spectacle for his side. We scored the first goal, they equalised, we scored the second and they didn't give up. However, the chances diminished with a weak fullback for a team that is known for their strong defense.
With the scores at 4-2 with 10 minutes to go, Chelsea had only to hold on and they did.
"It's a big impact because he was a person that was very close to us and in that moment you realise the real life".
