There were few positives to pinpoint for Southampton but Soares's whipped ball caused a moment's panic in the Hull back line only for Andrea Ranocchia to ease his countryman, Manolo Gabbiadini, aside, allowing Jakupovic to collect.
Charlie Austin and Matt Targett have returned to full training after long-term injuries but it is too soon for them to be involved in the first team. However, they received some good news this week as striker Oumar Niasse had his ludicrous red card, picked up against Watford last week, rescinded so he will be available.
He said: "They did spend money (on me), but I believe they (club and manager) should believe more in my ability".
"Hull City are a good team with good technical players and they play good football".
Hull's point, along with Sunderland's 1-0 home loss to Bournemouth, ensured Marco Silva's men edged closer to top-flight safety - and put the Black Cats down.
"Today it's a result for us of course, not a win, but it's an important point for us". We have conceded goals on the counter-attack away from home in games when the result has been looking good for us - we can not make it possible for our opponents to do this to us.
"Let's not just talk about the last minute. Perhaps it will be more hard".
"It's true that one challenge we have is to improve our away form". I want more of course, we tried to fight for more.
"The result gives confidence to us; and again it was fantastic attitude from our players as well. We need to keep focus, we conceded goals away on the counter-attack".
In the confrontations between these teams, victory was often in favor of Southampton.
With the point Hull move three clear of the relegation zone and have 34 points, while Southampton move on to 41 points and remain in ninth place in the table. The upcoming match of the "saints" against the "tigers" will be the sixth this month.
Southampton have won just two of their last seven league games at home, losing four and drawing the other.
Saints have scored just 17 goals at home this season - only Sunderland (16) and Middlesbrough (13) have scored fewer.
Hull City manager Marco Silva said he hoped a first away point in almost three months would give Hull the "courage" to win their Premier League survival fight.
Hull are yet to win away from home under Marco Silva in the league (D1, L6), By contrast, they are unbeaten at home.
Probability of away win: 11%.
