Jasprit Bumrah then came out to bowl for Mumbai and restricted Mumbai to 6 runs in their one over. This time Mumbai Indians are having some explosive players on its team including, Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel and their opening stand will be crucial. MI needed 11 runs off the final over - which was bowled by Irfan Pathan, and the equation reduced to MI needing 5 off the final five deliveries after Krunal Pandya hit the first ball for a six.
Mumbai Indians (MI) will be a little disappointed with the way they lost their last game against the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Considering they will be welcomed by a track full of runs, Mumbai will look at this as an opportunity to cement their place at the top of the table with another win. "Momentum plays a big part, the last match - we lost by 3 runs, we have great talent, it's just about playing to our potential, it was a tough match, but we kept ourselves ahead", he said. They can still make it to the playoff if they win the next five out of the six games and in further matches also GL have to play well including tonight matches. The wicketkeeper-batsman hit 16 runs off that over to set himself and Mumbai Indians on their way.
Team Gujarat will be hoping that their captain Suresh Raina is completely fit.
Gujarat Lions suffered a batting collapse before a rear-guard action saw them post a decent 153 for 9 with Mumbai Indians producing yet another inspired bowling performance. The weakest link of the team, i.e, their bowling was on nearly flawless display in that match as they scuttled out the RCB for just 131 runs with the help of some brilliant bowling from Andrew Tye, Jimmy Faulkner and Ravinder Jadeja. Krunal Pandya too made a memorable return to the side with his best bowling show in T20 cricket. GL got back in the game courtesy a brilliant piece of fielding from Irfan Pathan and MI had to score 11 from the final over.
At the top of the batting order, Gujarat only had young opener Ishan Kishan (48 off 35 deliveries) to thank while others perished without troubling the scorers.
When left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya had Dinesh Karthik (2) stumped by Parthiv Patel, Gujarat were struggling at 56/4 in 8.1 overs. Harbhajan Singh was economical yet again, though he was only successful in picking up one wicket. Andrew Tye, Basil Thampi and Nathu Singh are the pacers that the Gujarat side will be looking up to for support in the bowling department.
