Penguins star Crosby returns to practice after concussion

Somehow the Penguins managed a 3-2 win in Game 4 despite being without Sidney Crosby and being out-shot 38-18. The Washington Capitals stay alive for the moment and Game 6 is on Monday Night in Pittsburgh.

Washington Capitals center Lars Eller (20), from Denmark, celebrates as teammate Alex Ovechkin (8), from Russian Federation, scores a goal as Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury (29) and teammates Olli Maatta (3), from Finland, .

While Fleury struggled for the first time against the Capitals, Vezina Trophy finalist Braden Holtby had his best game of the series, stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced.

The Penguins confidence stems from still having a 3-2 series lead, home ice in Game 6 and getting Crosby back five days after he was concussed.

Crosby has collected 11 points (four goals, seven assists) during the playoffs for the Penguins, who hold a 3-1 edge in the series versus the Capitals.

Crosby participated in a full practice Friday, and was seen stretching before the game.

When I first heard this, I was like "No, he's moving Eller and Burakovsky to the first line" but no, Trotz actually deployed them like a third line.

"Right now, his status hasn't changed at all", said Sullivan. Kuznetsov already has a guarantee about Ovechkin for next game: "He's going to score two goals". "I understand the importance of making sure you're good before you come back, and I have a lot of belief in our staff here that they're going to do everything in their power to make sure I'm good when I come back". "I don't think it's to send a message or something". When an early Capitals power play went nowhere and Hagelin made it 1-0 Pittsburgh 10:24 in, it got quiet fast - except for Penguins fans' derisive chants of "HOLT-BY, HOLT-BY".

WASHINGTON, D.C. - It took until the third period of Game 5, but the Washington Capitals stars truly arrived.

Pittsburgh regained the lead early in the second period on a pretty passing sequence with Washington's Nate Schmidt off for holding.

This all feels very iffy, considering Crosby missed the majorities of two separate seasons after taking headshots in back-to-back games, and then another in his eighth game back. "Maybe the guys didn't know the goaltender was coming (out), but there was less than two minutes (to play) and (Ottawa) was down by a goal so they should expect it but maybe the guys got caught not knowing the goalie was out".

Ovechkin was moved to the third line and Burakovsky was moved to the first line. It was Crosby's first time back on the ic. "They're going to have to be all in", Washington coach Barry Trotz said Sunday during a conference call with reporters.

It was the first Capitals' first goal from a bottom-six forward in the series. "Now we have to focus on the second game, not think about the Game 7". It was his fifth goal of the playoffs and fourth in the series.

“We came back and hopefully we build off this now, ” said Backstrom, who executed a flawless give-and-go with Burakovsky on his goal.

With the crowd buzzing again, Kuznetsov sparked more chants of "FLEU-RY, FLEU-RY", by scoring the go-ahead goal from a sharp angle 7:20 into the third.

"I mean, we don't want to sit back".
