Even before the all-black attire in Game 6, bad blood has been brewing between the two teams. The victor of Monday night's game will face the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Eastern Conference Final.
The NBA playoffs have been a favorite's delight so far.
"It's great. You always talk about it".
It will be for Thomas who will approach Game 7 with a worry-free mindset, well aware of its implications for the Celtics season and his steadily-improving status in what has been one of the best individual seasons ever by a Celtic. Each starting guard has contributed with All-Star-quality performances, and their abilities to match one another, shot for shot, is one of the main reasons why this series is being played out to its fullest possible extent. "It's going to be a tough game".
The league report noted that "Instant replay is not permitted in this situation". When John Wall hit a buzzer-beating three pointer in Game 6 to lift the Wizards to victory, the pressure is now on the Celtics as the series returns to Boston.
"I ain't going home", a visibly excited Wall said in a televised on-court interview after their 92-91 victory that send the series to a Game Seven. Pictured: Isaiah Thomas prepares to shoot as John Wall defends in Game 6 of the second round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs at Verizon Center in Washington D.C. on May 12, 2017.
Wall and Thomas also have had their supporting casts come through.
Thomas may not need a big effort in Game 7 for Boston to close it out, but Al Horford will nearly certainly need to keep playing at a high level. Wall has his backcourt helper Bradley Beal as well as big men such as Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat. At times, Beal has carried the scoring load while Wall distributes more.
That said, the Celtics certainly look to be the best bet here, to win and cover the spread at online sports betting sites. Instead, not only did the Celtics fail to eliminate the Wizards in Game 6, but also tried to deny their planned all black attire during postgame interviews. Wall and Beal responded with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer to tie the game. The Wizards have virtually zero experience when it comes to Game 7's.
Nearly every other Wizard - including John Wall and Bradley Beal - has never sniffed a Game 7. Home teams are 101-26 all time.
Can the Boston Celtics escape Game 7 with a win? On the moneyline, the Celtics are -220 favorites, while the Washington Wizards are +190 underdogs.
Lopsided results dominated the first postseason series between Boston and Washington since 1984 with each game decided by at least 10 points.
Wall and Beal both shook off slow starts.
Some Celtics said it was purely coincidence that they showed up wearing black, the way the Wizards did for what became known as the "Funeral Game", won by Washington in January.
