Coast Guard searches for missing swimmer off Matagorda Beach

The Wilmington Coast Guard helped five people after their vessel began taking on water near Carolina Beach Sunday.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew launched from Station Wrightsville Beach and arrived on scene around 8:35 a.m. and delivered a dewatering pump.

- The Coat Guard and San Francisco Fire Department rescued two hypothermic swimmers near China Beach and Land's End this morning.

The Coast Guard crew located the missing swimmer atop of some rocks but couldn't reach him.

The Coast Guard is searching for a swimmer who went missing Saturday afternoon off Matagorda Beach a quarter mile east of the Colorado River. A float plan is a lifesaving tool and provides emergency responders with valuable information they need to search for a distressed boater.

At 10 a.m., the Coast Guard responded to a call about a female scuba diver with breathing complications, Coast Guard spokesperson Eric Woodall said.
