Man arrested at Comicon carrying guns, knives

Sterling was wearing dark clothing but police didn't say if it was dressed up as a character.

An unidentified 30-year-old man was arrested at the convention on Thursday with three handguns, a shotgun, and multiple knives, according to USA Today. "He was immediately removed from the venue and taken to police headquarters for questioning".

Police said in a probable-cause statement released Friday that officers took Sterling into custody at the Phoenix Convention Center after someone contacted Hawthorne, California, police to report that he was posting threats on Facebook about killing officers at the Comicon event.

"Expect some delays throughout the weekend", Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said during a press conference.

"You always hear us say if you see something, say something".

Good news for cosplayers attending Phoenix Comicon 2017: You can bring your helmets, masks, and fairy wings to the event after all.

All costume props are no longer allowed, including foam and cardboard props, shields and sabers.

Phoenix Comicon is now taking place through May 28 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

"Please leave [prop weapons] at home or in your vehicles, since they will not be allowed into the facility."
Because of the heightened security, entry lines into the event will likely be slower. "A number of other people were referenced as possible targets or people he wanted to kill". Purchased props will be wrapped by the vendors and must remain so while they are on-site.

After the man's arrest, the convention has now issued a blanket no weapons ban for the remainder of the event.

As we've previously reported, organizers have also increased security measures, including bag searches, at the convention center. Police also believe he meant to attack officers as well.
