Man arrested in theft of Portland train victim's ring

Portland Police did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the apprehended suspect. In the video, he is carrying what authorities said is Best's black backpack in his right hand and another backpack in his left hand. Moments after Rick Best was fatally stabbed on a TriMet train while defending two women, someone stole Best's wedding ring and backpack.

Tschaggeny will be charged with theft, evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse, Simpson said.

Pete Simpson provided details of his arrest Friday morning, saying a tip from a Domino's Pizza worker led them to the homeless camp where Tschaggeny lives off Northeast Halsey Street under the Cesar E. Chavez overpass along I-84.

The confrontation reportedly began when Christian started verbally harassing two teenage girls - one of whom was wearing a hijab - and lobbing anti-Muslim slurs at them on a MAX train in Portland.

Best, 53, and Taliesin Namkai-Meche, 23, were killed in Friday's attack.

Micah Fletcher was stabbed in the neck, but survived the attack.

"I stabbed the two [expletives] in the neck and I'm happy now", he said while in the back of a police auto, according to CNN.

He was wearing Best's wedding ring at the time of his arrest, police said.

OR authorities on Friday identified a homeless man they say stole valuables from one of the victims of a double homicide in Portland last week. Best died at the scene, police have said. Once arrested, Christian made shocking statements when he was put in the back of a police vehicle equipped with audio and video recording devices, according to an affidavit released Tuesday.

Christian attacked the men after they tried to protect two young black girls at whom Christian was yelling racist and anti-Muslim remarks. He has yet to enter a plea on charges of aggravated murder and other crimes.
