Manchester United Contact Real Madrid Over Alvaro Morata Transfer

UNITED have made a £52million offer for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata - that has been rejected out of hand.

Alvaro Morata came through the youth rank in Real Madrid and has been very impressive for the club in spite of his fringe role in the team.

Madrid are said to be willing to sanction Morata's sale for €60m this summer, having only re-signed the striker from Juventus last summer.

Express Sport understands the Spain global is on the Blues' wishlist to replace Diego Costa, who could leave for the Chinese Super League.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for a goal-getting attacker owing to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's cruciate ligament injury that he suffered at the tail-end of the 2016/2017 campaign.

After the drawn-out pursuit of Antoine Griezmann failed and considering Romelu Lukaku is expected to re-sign for Chelsea from Everton rather than make the switch to Old Trafford, that leaves a pretty short list.

"At a big club you are going to attract big players and that's what we want", Rashford told Sky Sports after being asked about Morata, who scored 20 goals last season but was behind Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in Madrid's attacking pecking order.

However, Morata wants more regular football and both Chelsea and Milan are reported to be leading the race for his signature.

Should United fail, they will then turn their attention to Torino striker Andrea Belotti, who has an £87.3 million release clause in his contract. As Zlatan Ibrahimovic's renewal seems more unlikely and Anthoine Griezmann has chose to stay at Atletico Madrid, the Spaniard would become the number one target for the Red Devils' attack.

"To return to Madrid and win the Champions League is incredible".

Real still retain interest in taking United's star goalkeeper David de Gea to Spain, but The Sun does not believe that United offered the 26-year-old in part-exchange in their opening offer for Morata - a move which is laughable given De Gea's world-renowned status.
