Crosby scores, Malkin shoots yet Penguins lose 4-1 to Preds

Nashville Predators defenseman Yannick Weber (7), of Switzerland, knocks the puck from Pittsburgh Penguins left wing Chris Kunitz (14) during the second period in Game 4 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Finals Monday, June 5, 201.

Allowing the Predators nine goals in the last two games will not help Pittsburgh become back-to-back Cup winners.

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray (30) moves the puck from behind the net against the Nashville Predators during the first period in Game 4 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Finals Monday, June 5, 2017, in Nashville, Tenn.

The Nashville Predators are making history, and all of Tennessee is watching closely.

Frederick Gaudreau sure is doing his best to earn his own locker with the Nashville Predators with a Stanley Cup Final debut for the ages. They got more, just not almost enough against Pekka Rinne and the Nashville Predators. It was the first playoff goal for Arvidsson since Game 4 of the first round, and it put Nashville up 3-1. Matt Murray (22 saves) had stopped Craig Smith's initial deflection of Austin Watson's shot, but Jarnkrok's follow gave him five points - one goal and four assists - in the past five games.

According to Rule 38.6: "In the event that a video replay shows a goal was scored prior to the play being stopped, the Video Goal Judge will inform the Game Timekeeper and Official Scorer of the time and the amount of playing time left to be reset on the game clock and penalty time clocks (if applicable)". Erasing memories of nightmarish start to this Final, the one-time Conn Smythe Trophy candidate ensured the Pens would not get a repeat of Crosby's earlier drive. "You've got to trust all those habits, all those things that you preach all year, come through when you need them most".

"It's been unbelievable for us, the way he's come, he's been so good". So for three series, we've been able to do that. Several hundred fans were present when the team flew to Pittsburgh for the first two games.

"The games are a lot closer than the score indicates", said Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan. "We have to go back and respond the right way". "We had a number of Grade A opportunities, a couple of breakaways, flurries around the net".

Rinne made a spectacular diving save midway through the second to keep the score 2-1, foiling Jake Guentzel by knocking the puck out of the crease just before it crossed the goal line.

After a stop-and-start beginning to Game 4, the two sides scored almost in succession.

"He's a great goaltender, so he can make those kinds of saves", Guentzel said.

"I heard it on the bench that it was possibly in the net", Gaudreau said.

The former National Basketball Association star and now TV analyst says he had nothing to do and is really looking forward to the game.

"It's simple. We've got to go home and win a game", Crosby said.
