Conor McGregor V Floyd Mayweather Super-Fight: 5 Positives & 5 Negatives

With Floyd Mayweather set to fight Conor McGregor in a boxing bout in August, the UFC stars gathered here are all excited about watching one of their own take on the legendary American pugilist.

"IT'S OFFICIAL!" Mayweather wrote on his Twitter account alongside a short video that included photos of both fighters.

Mayweather, who retired in September 2015 after winning all 49 of his pro fights, will face the Irish UFC superstar at the T-Mobile arena on the Las Vegas Strip.

Conor McGregor, as the premier UFC fighter, knows how to win fights with elbows, knees and kicks, but if he employs those tactics in his August 26 boxing match with Mayweather, the penalties would be severe. The fight will be at 154 pounds, for 12 rounds, with the fighters wearing 10-ounce gloves.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was built up for nearly five years, and their highly anticipated fight finally became a reality in 2015, setting the a new mark in combat sports with around 4.5 million pay-per-view buys and a gate of $72 million. McGregor is the biggest star in MMA, but neither he nor any UFC fighter has ever had close to a nine-figure payday.

UFC boss Dana White said McGregor would go after Mayweather and try to "knock him out".

"I'm not saying the fight will happen but I got one side done". Floyd is one of the greatest of all time in boxing.

This would mean that Floyd would earn no less than 100 million from the fight.

He is 11 years older than his opponent.

This could be the biggest spectacle in combat sports history, and McGregor's fellow MMA fighters shared their excitement on social media.

"As with every Mayweather and McGregor fight part of the appeal is the spectacle and outsize personalities who are participating in it", Espinoza said. Muscle memory, and natural instincts, could easily take over when McGregor fights, but his contract now forbids him from doing so. "So, I [applaud] Conor for getting this fight", she said. McGregor will be lucky to land a significant punch on Mayweather, the greatest defensive boxer any of us have ever seen. Las Vegas oddsmakers list Mayweather a -1200 favorite and McGregor a +700 underdog. The fight will air on Showtime Pay-Per-View.
