Decision on supporting Kovind on Tuesday: Uddhav Thackeray

On the day the BJP announced Ram Nath Kovind as the NDAs presidential nominee, its alliance partner Shiv Sena today said the party will come out with its "final decision" tomorrow.

However, he told the media that Thackeray "will address all your doubts" at the Shiv Sena's 51st anniversary of founding function scheduled later Monday evening in Mumbai.

He added that if the next President proves to be beneficial for all the people of the country and not just Dalits, "then make anybody".

"Shah informed him (Thackeray) about the BJP choice and also sought the Shiv Sena's support for Kovind's candidature", Raut said.

After pitching for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat as the next president, Shiv Sena on Friday also proposed the name of leading agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan for the post, reported DNA.

Thackeray, however, said that they would extend their support only if the decision was taken for the development of the nation. I do not fear mid-term elections.

It is not clear whether the board will announce its candidate on Monday as a party leader said it may authorise Shah to take a call. "As of now, my only concern are farmers who are forced to commit suicide in the middle of their lives", Thackeray said.

Patil defeated NDA candidate and Vice President B.S. Shekhawat.

JD (U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed happiness that the Bihar Governor would be the NDA's candidate for the President elections.

The nomination is expected to be submitted on June 23 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be present for the submission before he departs for the United States the next day.

"If they have declared Kovind's name for getting Dalit votes, then we are not interested".
