US President Donald Trump, "USS Ford Is Message to the World"

A 2016 memo from Michael Gilmore, the Defense Department's director of operational test and evaluation, said the most expensive warship in history continued to struggle launching and recovering aircraft, moving onboard munitions, conducting air traffic control and ship self-defense as recently as a year ago.

"You are fulling your duty to this nation and now it is our job of the government to fulfill its duty to you", said Mr. Trump.

Trump, who is commander in chief of the USA armed forces, was traveling to Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia on Saturday to preside over a ceremony during which the USS Ford, the first member of the next generation of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, will be welcomed to the fleet with the words: "Man our ship and bring her to life". The President said to a cheering crowd.

President Donald Trump is calling on Congress to approve higher military spending so the US can build "the best equipment".

She said: "There is no-one, absolutely no-one, who would be prouder of the commissioning of this mighty ship than the president of the United States, Gerald R Ford". Construction began in 2008 and was initially slated for completion in September of 2015, but ran into delays.

"I was with you four months ago and I knew that I had to be here today and I told you I'd be back to congratulate you and the crew and everybody involved in commissioning the newest, largest and most advanced aircraft carrier in the history of this world", Trump said Saturday.

The warships are being built by Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc.

Also attending the ceremony were Susan Ford Bales, daughter of the late president; former Vice President Dick Cheney, wearing a navy blazer and cowboy hat; former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld; Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe; Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, and several lawmakers.

US Navy brass plan to spend another £30 billion building another two sister ships - the USS John F. Kennedy and the USS Enterprise. The Navy veteran's presidency was largely about restoring trust in the Oval Office, and that's represented in the Ford Foundation's motto: "Integrity at the helm". Additional information on aircraft carriers is available online at "You going to goddamned steam, the digital costs hundreds of millions of dollars more money and it's no good", Trump said. "We will win", Trump said. "This has led to deferred maintenance, a lack of investment in new equipment and technology and a shortfall in military readiness".

Ford still must go through various tests and trials of its cutting-edge technology, including new systems to launch and land fighter jets.
