Multiple sources have indicated Cutler is signing a one-year deal with Miami worth $10 million, plus incentives.
Cutler posted the best passer rating (92.3) of his National Football League career in his single season under Gase in 2015, and the Dolphins head coach was quick to support Cutler when he announced his retirement in May.
There had been reports already that Cutler and Miami had already agreed on a one-year deal, but that was never confirmed by anyone within the organization.
The Dolphins made the move after quarterback Tannehill injured his left knee in practice Thursday scrambling out of bounds. "I think a lot of things that have been said in the past have really been (expletive)".
Why else would the Dolphins be trying to bring Jay Cutler out of retirement? He also threw the lowest number of interceptions (11) in a season where he appeared in at least 15 games.
With this injury, Tannehill and Dolphins are still debating if surgery is the best option as if Tannehill does chose to have surgery he will be out for the entire season. As $5 million of that is base salary and another $5 million is a roster bonus, it strongly suggests the Dolphins expect him to be the starter ahead of Matt Moore.
Cutler's going to need a place to stay, so Giants receiver Brandon Marshall offered his Florida home.
Tannehill missed the final three games of the regular season and the Dolphins' playoff loss to Pittsburgh after spraining ligaments in his left knee. "I'm in between those situations at this point in my life". That's good news. So is how well Cutler played with Gase in Chicago. He is very clearly just a single-year rental and reportedly wanted to be careful about how he handled the situation with respect to Tannehill.
Cutler, 34, enjoyed success in his one season playing under Gase as he compiled a career-best 92.3 quarterback rating.
