This marks the 18th straight year that OU has appeared in the preseason AP Top 25, which is the second longest current string behind Ohio State (29).
The opener will be only the fourth involving two top-five teams and the first featuring teams ranked within the preseason top three.
West Virginia will start the season ranked in both major polls after the Mountaineers came in at No. 22 in the Pre-Season AP Poll that was released Monday. It's 12 spots higher than than where they finished last season, at No. 24.
Alabama is the only SEC team in the top 10, but the conference leads with six teams in the Top 25.
It's the third time that the Bedlam rivals will start the AP poll inside the top 10.
Oklahoma State drew a preseason ranking for the fifth time in the past seven seasons, which is the best stretch in program history. Despite the Longhorns having a bad year in 2016 (losing to KU was the cherry on top of that cake), they always get national appeal simply because they're the Texas Longhorns. You have to go back to Pat Dye in the 1980s to find the last time they were ranked in the Top 15 three times in a four-season stretch.
Leading the AP preseason survey is - not surprisingly - Alabama.
The Tigers will face three of those teams this season - LSU on October 14, Georgia on November 11 and Alabama on November 25 - as well as defending national champion and No. 5-ranked Clemson at Memorial Stadium on November 9. The Bulldogs, of course, won the national championship that season. The Buckeyes edged the Seminoles in total points, 1,414 to 1,396.
Florida owns the nation's longest season-opening winning streak of 27 games but was drubbed 41-7 by MI in the Citrus Bowl to end the 2015 season, one of the Gators' worst showings since McElwain took over as coach of the program.
