Ram Rahim verdict: Rajnath Singh calls for high-level meet

Ram Rahim Singh was taken into judicial custody in a chopper to Rohtak following his conviction by trial court judge Jagdeep Singh.

Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General (ADG), Haryana Police, said there was "no confirmed report" of any casualty so far in Sirsa, but "some injuries in clashes between police and Dera followers" have been reported.

One of them in her statements said when she entered the Dera chief's chambers, the doors closed automatically while he was watching a pornographic film. Opposition is attacking BJP government and Haryana Police in failing to follow proper intelligence reports and making responsible for deaths and burnings. The controversial godman-turned-actor now faces minimum of 10 years in jail since the victim was a minor at the time of the sexual assault.

At least 30 people have lost their lives and over 250 are injured after violence broke out in response to the CBI court convicting DSS chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Thereafter, the case was handed over to CBI, which then went on to interview several other women but only two of them claimed to have been raped by the Dera chief.

"I consider guru-ji to be only next to God", farmer Malkit Singh said as he squatted on the ground in a Panchkula park, saying Ram Rahim Singh had cured him of a decadelong addiction to drugs. Although forces are deployed outside the court who are trying to control the situation.

As per the latest updates of the case, the district court in Panchkula on Friday has announced Ram Rahim guilty of sexually exploiting the Sadhvi.

Despite having enough intelligence about Dera chief's followers congregating in Panchkula, the state government seemed totally unprepared to handle the situation.

Police fired in the air, lobbed tear gas and let loose water cannons on the protesters to quell the violence, which appeared to spread beyond Panchkula to many places in Haryana, Punjab and even Rajasthan.

Besides the rape charges, Singh was also under investigation over allegations that he convinced 400 of his male followers to undergo castration, charges he denies. About a lakhs of Dera followers are protesting in Panchkula and Sirsa.

A journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati had exposed the rapes of two women at Dera headquarters in Sirsa 15 years ago.
