People are taking good care of their animals. "That is how we make the biggest impact and save the most lives".
"In response to the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, Rescue Village is opening its doors to animals in need of life-saving support", Rescue Village Executive Director Hope Brustein said in a release.
Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Ashville, N.C., has been working feverishly on a mass rescue of four coastal animal shelters.
"HSUS is not affiliated with local humane societies and uses only about one percent of its budget to help animals in shelters", said Kay Johnson Smith, president and CEO at the Alliance.
Animals from places like Georgia or Louisiana could end up coming to Milwaukee to find new homes - and this isn't the first time WHS has jumped into action during a disaster. Some pet owners have refused to leave flooded areas without their dogs and cats, despite the dangers.
Other organizations are also mobilizing for the flood of flood-stricken pets including the Humane Society of the United States, GreaterGood.org, Wings of Rescue and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Seattle Humane will not take in pets separated from their owners in the disaster.
One of the most powerful photos of all is surely this one of a man and his pet dog outside his ruined home in the aftermath of the storm. This will cost Pets Alive thousands of dollars, adding to an already stretched medical fund. In addition to cash donations, the organization can also use in-kind donations like large plastic or metal bins with lids.
The shelter is offering microchips for $15 from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, Sept. 1. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org. Adult dog adoptions are $50, and puppies are $85.
