Jake Olson, USC's blind long-snapper, makes first career appearance

This game remained so close for so long because the Broncos, playing their first game under new head coach Tim Lester, performed every bit like the defending MAC champions that they are.

Jones totaled 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, nearly nine yards per clip.

USC's offense displayed no ills early, at least not on its first drive, reaching the end zone two minutes into the game. The offensive line continuously let Sam Darnold get pressured and gave up two sacks (that's two more than a very good Penn St. defense got in the Rose Bowl), was called for several penalties, and struggled with consistency in the run game. He'd been a fan of the team for years, played for his high school team and made the decision to walk on to USC.

USC kicked off the 2017 season by casting a shadow over all the offseason hype surrounding the No. 4 Trojans, struggling to best the Western Michigan Broncos. Running backs Jarvion Franklin, Jamauri Bogan and LeVante Bellamy ran the ball all over them.

The score was 48-31 late in the fourth quarter until Olson helped make that final point possible when he snapped the ball for the Trojans. They've got work to do though.

LOS ANGELES USC's national championship hopes looked set to take a hit on Saturday, amid a back-and-forth affair with Western Michigan.
