India won their 10th penalty corner of the match within seconds and this time the umpire awarded another penalty corner as Varun's effort was obstructed by Bangladeshi defenders.

Pakistan made a ferocious run into India's box after being down to nine-men in the third quarter but new goalkeeper Akash Chikte pulled off a brilliant save to ensure India did not give away their lead.

Three minutes later, Gurjant Singh's reverse hit from the right flank was just off target.
