Arizona State University and Vice President of University Athletics Ray Anderson has unveiled plans for a restructured ASU football model and named former NFL head coach Herman Edwards as the 24th head coach of Sun Devil Football, pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents. The New Leadership Model affords coordinators and assistant coaches more flexibility in how they develop student-athletes on the field, and enables Sun Devil Football to build on the "Championship Life" program already in place through the Office of Student-Athlete Development to better equip student-athletes with the tools and skills necessary to succeed in their respective future endeavors.
Hopefully, the big man upstairs takes no issue. "Equally important, the head coach will be a dynamic and tireless recruiter".
The school held a presser today to formally announce the hiring, and for some reason, yet another agent vouched for Edwards's skill and integrity.
"This is what I do", he said.
Herm Edwards is a big religion guy and wants you to know he's got no time for any devils. Why can't it be?
Arizona State's bold move is official. He coached the Chiefs from 2006-08, after several seasons with the New York Jets, accumulating a 54-74 record over his eight seasons between both franchises. He was 54-74 as an National Football League head coach.
The former defensive back made his name as a player for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1977 until 1985.
He was 56-78 as an National Football League coach, including a 2-4 postseason record.
"Devils Digest, huh?" said Edwards, who asked where his business was located.
