Track Santa at home and on the road

NORAD is continuing its Christmas tradition of tracking Santa Claus.

They even track Santa's progress in their cars if they have an OnStar subscription.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is celebrating the 62nd Anniversary of tracking Santa's yuletide journey!

"It's a unique capability that NORAD has", said Canadian Army Maj.

It reportedly all started when an ad telling children to call Santa but a misprint resulted in calls being made to the on-duty crew commander at the Continental Air Defense Command Operations Center.

The North American Aerospace defense command, better known as NORAD, protects American airspace; but it's having a little fun. Last year, more than 1,500 volunteers staffed the hotline, which received about 154,000 calls.

This year, children can track Santa through the website,, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. The website saw 56 million views, and staff also received 28,000 emails.

Starting at 5 a.m. today, trackers worldwide can speak with a live phone operator to inquire as to Santa's whereabouts by dialing the toll-free number 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) or by sending an email to OnStar subscribers can press the OnStar button in their vehicles to locate Santa. Bing and Cortana users can also find Santa's location.
