The Golden State Warriors will seek to continue their recent mastery of the Los Angeles Clippers when the two top teams in the Pacific Division meet for the second time in five days on Wednesday night. According to Oliver Maroney of DimeUPROXX, Wilt Chamberlain scored his 20,000th career point in his 499th career game. While it never started at the highest level, it hit rock bottom in the third when the Warriors scored 28 points.
Golden State Warriors teammates Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are neck-and-neck for tops in All-Star balloting among Western Conference players. He drilled 16 of 27 field goals, including 8 triples. He handed out five assists as Golden State raced ahead 27-20 a far cry from the Warriors' previous performance in a 96-81 loss to Denver at Oracle Arena on December 23.
When Durant knocked down a 21-foot jumper on Montrezl Harrell with 1:41 left in the first half, it gave him 20,000 points for his career, making him the second-youngest player to accomplish that feat behind James. In his seven prior seasons, Durant played 97.1% of the regular season schedule (542 of 558 games).
As in previous seasons, the starters will be determined by the fan vote as well as a vote among current players and media. You could nearly see Durant stepping on the throat of the entire Cavaliers team, at that moment. You're not going to win many games if that happens. He scored the Clippers' next 17 points, scored 29 points total in the third quarter and 50 points in the game.
The Clippers, winners in seven of their last ten games, will be back in action on Thursday night, as they're scheduled for a match-up against the Sacramento Kings inside the Golden 1 Center.
Fellow guard Klay Thompson will also not play on Wednesday. Remember, after signing Kevin Durant, Golden State's "deepest roster in the league" isn't quite as deep these days.
When he reaches that 20,000-point mark, he said he is not sure how he will react but acknowledged that it will be an occasion he cherishes forever.
If Durant is able to stay healthy, it's only a matter of time until he becomes the ninth member of the 30,000-point club.
Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson should all be named NBA All-Stars next month just like they were past year, according to Green. The three-plus year losing streak is snapped - for now.
"For me, it was more important to get a win, try to close that gap to get back to.500, especially with the injuries, with guys in and out of the lineup, for us to still have that opportunity, to be in the playoff fold", Williams said.
