Mayfield to play in Senior Bowl, likely in brief role

He's too short. He's too much like Johnny Manziel.

Now, Hunt has evaluated every matchup, every angle and every player and locked in his Senior Bowl 2018 picks. He'll never make it in the NFL.

"I remember that he's a phenomenal quarterback, very accurate and very competitive", Matthews said. "That's all out the window".

"I think we're still in the process", Elway said.

Mayfield's draft status doesn't hang in the balance here. They think they know, but they don't know yet.

Mayfield added that his mother was "slowly getting better". "I've never been to NY". And the Broncos' coaching staff doesn't seem to believe the quarterback is a troublemaker. "As time goes on, we'll continue to work on them and study each one of them, and by the time we get to the draft, have them ranked and go from there". "Everybody I've talked to is in love with the personality and they'll see if they can develop the player".

It is unknown if Mayfield will play in the Senior Bowl. "He looked pretty darn good to me today". "Get outta here. Family before myself always", he tweeted.

The prolific passer, who ranks second in school annals with 12,292 passing yards and 20 career 300-yard passing games, has made a couple of decisions along the way including pleading guilty for public intoxication and making obscene gestures during a game last season versus Kansas.

"Everybody wants to portray the bad boy, the Johnny Manziel stuff, but I love the game of football", Mayfield said.

With being the first-overall pick, however, always comes along with it the high probability that you may be going to an terrible team, and, worse yet, an terrible organization. "When you look over and see a guy like John Elway on the sideline, it's hard not to get excited".

Then he slipped on his shoulder pads, strapped on his Oklahoma helmet with a chrome visor and went to work, flashing the bullet passes that helped him make the leap from college walk-on to Heisman Trophy victor.

He's a former college running back and football coach who has been supplying analysis on the game for the past decade. "Other than that, we're nothing alike". I'll do anything that it takes to win.

He reached a plea deal after an arrest on public intoxication charges during the last offseason.

"It's a tough situation obviously to come in as a rookie and expect to be ideal right away", he admitted, also acknowledging that he knows he has "a lot of flaws as a quarterback". He's the type of wide receiver who showed he can get open with his route running, and that trait will make him valuable on an National Football League team. He still needs to consistently throw with a narrower base, but Mayfield has plenty of arm strength to spray the ball all over the field.

More than a year later, Matthews still recalls Mayfield's surgical performance. "We wanted to have an opportunity to get to meet him".
