Manchester City make '£65m plus player' bid for Premier League star

Mahrez, who submitted his first Leicester transfer request last May, would be able to provide cover for Sané.

Deal off. Manchester City give up on trying to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

According to Sky Sports City have bid £65 million for the 26-year-old, and crucially they're willing to add a player to the deal.

However, City will still need to up their fourth offer if they are to land Mahrez.

Mahrez is unlikely to feature when Leicester travel to Goodison Park to play Everton on Wednesday night. He feels very strongly that he has done everything in his powers for the club.

The Premier League victor expressed a desire to leave the King Power Stadium last summer, but the Foxes did not sanction a move as no clubs met their asking price.

The Foxes are rightly trying to milk big-spending City for as much as they can for the Algerian worldwide winger who has nine goals and assists a piece this season. By my calculations, Leicester would have made £59.8m profit on the player they bought from Le Havre for £350,000. He's given his all for Leicester this season so that he could leave in this window.

He would seem a somewhat unnecessary arrival at the Etihad Stadium, though, given they still have strength in depth thanks to Bernardo Silva, and the Algerian doesn't naturally possess the work rate that will be required of him if he joins Guardiola's side.

Pep Guardiola will go with Bernardo Silva and Brahim Díaz until Sané comes back, which is a risk but is not the worst alternative in the world. "He's very down about how he's been treated by a club he has served so well".
