Ozil deal was cheapest option for Arsenal - Wenger

Over the years, I had witnessed several Arsenal January dealings to be frustrating and sometimes it bogs down morals of numerous fans, which has also resulted in our inability to sustain a title challenge during the past decade.

Despite bringing in quality players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the new deal for Mesut Özil was the best signing of the window for Arsenal. While they did all that off the pitch, their on the pitch performance was not quite as good.

While Arsenal will expect the striker to deliver a consistent amount of goals for the amount they paid, Aubameyang's move to London is set to trigger an unexpected windfall for some of his former clubs.

For now, it's a home game and the Gunners will start as favourites. They've clawed themselves away from the bottom three and find themselves sitting in ninth.

According to WhoScored.com, Jack Wilshere remains a doubt for the hosts after missing Tuesday's loss against Swansea through injury. Santi Cazorla will be out as he continues to recover from his nightmare of an Achilles injury.

Everton will be without Leighton Baines, James McCarthy, Ramiro Funes Mori and Maarten Stekelenburg through injury.

Although the Gunners have not yet confirmed Ozil's contract renewal but Elneny has revealed that the German star has already extended his contract.

"But try to finish second, try to play the best we can, try to improve the players individually the best we can, try to be the best possible team in the end of the season".

Ahead of the game, the Merseysiders are placed ninth in the league table with 31 points. That's not only defensively but offensively, we don't score enough goals.

However, while there was plenty of change in attacking areas for the North London giants, one area that Arsenal failed to strengthen, albeit not due to a lack of effort, was their defence.

The Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who signed for Arsenal on Wednesday, compared himself to the French "Gunners" legend Thierry Henry when defining himself as a "quick" player who scores goals, "a bit like Henry". He is naturally a focal point because they give him naturally the ball.
