Man United considering bid to sign quality Tottenham star this summer

The Belgian worldwide is in his third season with Premier League giants Spurs, having joined from Atletico Madrid in 2015, and has established himself as one of Europe's top defenders during his time in North London.

The rumours surrounding Toby Alderweireld are growing more intense by the day, but he could be looking at a summer exit, according to the Guardian, and will not be short of suitors.

The Madrid back line could do with revitalising, and Alderweireld may be the ideal candidate to add solidity given he has been one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League over the past three seasons.

Alderweireld was keen to play after declaring himself fit but Spurs chief Poch had other ideas.

The situation has caught the attention of a number of clubs with the Mirror claiming that Man Utd and Chelsea are watching developments closely ahead of potential summer swoops.

The same report also claims that Alderweireld's current deal contains a release clause of £25m, but that can only be activated in the 2019 summer transfer window.

So, unless Tottenham can tie Alderweireld down to a new contract over the coming months they may be forced to cash-in this summer or risk losing the defender for just £25m the following year.

The hefty wage packet reportedly being sought by Alderweireld in North London would no doubt prove easier to come by at the Bernabeu, with Real, along with Manchester United, now viewed as the leading contenders for the Tottenham star's signature.

No talks over a new deal have been talked about despite the 28-year-old having the option to extend his current contract at the North London side for a further year, The Mirror reports.
