Prior to Hosmer's reported deal, Myers' six-year, $83 million contract signed in 2017 was the largest pact in Padres history. He also helped the Royals reach back-to-back World Series, including beating the Mets in 2015.
KMBC will have more on this breaking story.
This is just the third free agent contract longer than three years this winter, along with Yu Darvish to the Cubs (6 years, $126 million) and outfielder Lorenzo Cain to the Royals (5 years, $80 million), the latter a teammate of Hosmer's in Kansas City for seven seasons.
Eric Hosmer's extended run as a free agent appears to be nearing its end. With a team that hasn't won more than 77 games since 201o and one of the game's strongest farm systems, the addition of Hosmer makes the Padres a team to keep an eye on for the next handful of summers.
Renfroe, who recently turned 26, is a former first-rounder who's put up a line of.242/.291/.492 (105 OPS+) across parts of two big-league seasons. The deal reportedly includes an opt-out after the fifth season.
"You never know how a player is going to perform, but we felt really good about Eric Hosmer", Royals general manager Dayton Moore said during an afternoon news conference at the Royals' spring training complex. After his World Series triumph, Hosmer would be nominated as an All Star in 2016. He won three straight Gold Gloves and locked up his fourth in 2017, and he was the league's Silver Slugger victor at first base previous year. In 100 games last season, Cron hit.248 with 16 homers and 56 RBIs.
