Chelsea Made Life Difficult For Barcelona- Ernesto Valverde

Antonio Conte believes Chelsea can still achieve "something incredible" at the Camp Nou after emerging disappointed only to draw with Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Willian fired Chelsea ahead in the second half in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.

Lionel Messi scored his first goal against Chelsea in nine Champions League appearances.

"He is only 21 years old". Willian hit the post a couple of times.

Chelsea's former Barca midfielder Cesc Fabregas, though, stressed the importance of going to Catalonia in three weeks' time with attacking intent rather than just trying to keep Barcelona at bay for as long as possible.

"What Barcelona do when they go away from home is they wind the clock down to take you back to the Camp Nou".

"It will be a completely different game, to play there is different", Willian said of the difference between the two legs.

Elsewhere, the night's other game produced a far more conclusive outcome with Thomas Mueller and Robert Lewandowski both scoring twice as Bayern Munich beat 10-man Besiktas 5-0. I repeat: "Christensen for me, he was one of the best players tonight".

Messi, along with Suarez, were kept at arm's length for much of this game, but it only takes one slip against this Barcelona team, even when they are out of sorts.

Spanish press claim Gary Cahill did not play for Chelsea against Barcelona because of the news of Ryan Mason's retirement from football.

Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, Ferdinand said: "Antonio Conte's face says it all - the disappointment".

"We will go there trying to win because we have to score and we will try to pull off the ideal game as we did today except for the small mistake that we made", added the Belgian.

'I feel that in his own eyes the game just slows down for him, ' Ferdinand said.

"It is a good score given we were behind and clearly there is everything left to decide in the second leg".

When you play this type of game you must use your intelligence. When you have many young players, you must pay something in experience. They pressed us very high and made life hard for us.

"I didn't think it was the near-perfect performance people are saying it was, you need to use everything in your power to put Barcelona under pressure".

"I think we played a really good game and I must be pleased because my players made a great effort".
