President Trump, Congress Order Extraordinary Honors for Rev. Billy Graham

Graham's casket will then arrive at the Capitol on Wednesday, the 28th, and after arriving House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will take part in a bicameral service.

The motorcade for "America's Pastor", which began at the training center operated by Graham's evangelistic association in Asheville, was a chance for residents in some of the evangelist's favorite places to pay tribute.

A hearse carrying the body of the Reverend Billy Graham made its journey from the North Carolina Mountains to his hometown Saturday.

Firefighters suspended giant American flags from the cranes of fire engines stationed at two highway overpasses as Billy Graham's body passed underneath. Pallbearers, followed by family, carried the coffin into the Billy Graham Library, which will serve as a backdrop for the funeral.

Bush tells how Graham's most meaningful service came just days after the 9/11 attacks after he asked him to lead the service at Washington National Cathedral.

More: Billy Graham reached millions through his crusades.

The motorcade rolled through Black Mountain, where he shopped and caught trains, to Montreat, where he lived. A Graham spokesman said Former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush will pay their respects in Charlotte Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Bush family said the pair would not be able to make the March 2 funeral due to a previous commitment. About 2,000 people are expected at the private, invitation-only funeral. He is the first to lie in honor at the Capitol since civil rights icon Rosa Parks in 2005.
