US Olympian Burns Ivanka Trump's Winter Olympic Appearance

First Daughter Ivanka Trump was in the crowd for the ceremony.

Ivanka, an advisor to the president, made the remarks as she was preparing to board a plane back to the United States at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, wrapping up her four-day trip here for the Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

While Vice President Mike Pence led the US delegation during the games' opening ceremony, the first daughter traveled to South Korea this week to head the team during its closing ceremonies.

South Korea agreed to host North Korean athletes, musicians, cheerleaders and a high-level delegation at the Olympics.

Pyongyang has not confirmed the offer, but it has often said it is willing to talk without any preconditions.

He said: "If the sanctions don't work, we'll have to go phase two, Phase two may be a very rough thing, may be very, very unfortunate for the world".

She was the center of a frenzy of attention, especially when she appeared at the opening ceremony and stood only a few feet from U.S. Vice President Mike Pence. "There was no interaction with the North Korean delegation".

Kim's presence was met with protests from many South Koreans, including lawmakers, who have blamed Kim's widely believed role in orchestrating a series of provocations, namely the sinking of the South Korea's Cheonan - a South Korean naval ship that was hit with a torpedo in 2010.

South Korea's President Moon has tried to bring Washington and Pyongyang together at these Olympics.

The North Korean athletes waved their own flag alongside South Korean athletes and their flag.

A senior U.S. administration official said there was no interaction between Ivanka, who was placed next to Moon's wife, and Kim, who was in the row behind her, just two seats away from General Vincent Brooks, the commander of United States forces in South Korea.

Discussing the new sanctions, Mr Trump's Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said they would "shut down North Korea's illicit maritime smuggling activities to obtain oil and sell coal".

Kim's comment comes amid a new round of United States sanctions against North Korea and sharp words from President Donald Trump, who suggested if the sanctions were ineffective, the U.S. would be forced to enter a "very rough" phase with the regime. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the USA has now blacklisted virtually all ships being used by the North.

Choe and Hooker were not seen at the closing ceremony. "If we can't, something will have to happen", Trump said.
