In the Sweet 16, the Seminoles topped the No. 4 Gonzaga Bulldogs, 75-60. These two teams last met in 2013 in a game MI won 82-80.
Florida State, with its three national championships and three Heisman Trophy winners, is known as one of the great college football programs in the country.
Though he was dealing with a groin injury through the early rounds, it appears guard Terance Mann is more than fully healed after dropping 18 points in the Sweet 16 victory over Gonzaga. The Wolverines averaged nine 3-pointers per game coming in and exceeded that by the break.
Another issue for FSU will be trying to contain junior Moritz Wagner, a 6-foot-11 forward who can hit from outside.
John Beilein, an old-school basketball coach who has spent his 40-year career finding and recruiting players in person, remembers an email that ended up bringing Moe Wagner to MI from Germany.
Florida State has played seven teams who are considered strong defensively, allowing 64 points per game or less and they've gone 4-3 SU and ATS in those games.
The Wolverines were good in the first half and even better in the second against Texas A&M. The Aggies had no answer and moved aside for the Wolverines to advance. Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman was the top scorer from either team with 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting. MI took a big lead early and made 10 of 16 from beyond the 3-point line in the first half. For one, they've shown themselves to legitimately be among the game's best this season. The ACC downs the Big Ten in the Elite 8. They rank in the Top 20 nationally in blocks, swatting away almost 14% of opponents shots and 2-point defense, allowing just over 45% on shots inside the arc. "They ask where to watch the games, and that's something that makes me very proud and happy". On the season, MI is averaging 74.5 ppg on 47.1% shooting from the field. They are limiting opponents to 63.3 points, good for ninth in the nation.
12 - The win over the 12th Man marked the 12th straight victory for MI, who continues their hot streak in the Elite 8 on Saturday. On a one-day turnaround, that could play a factor late in games.
I am taking MI in this showdown.
Starks and the rest of the Aggies sat in a mostly silent locker room at the Staples Center, the polar opposite of what they experienced last week in Charlotte. The 30-4 Chips were seeded 11 but upset LSU and Ohio State to reach the Sweet 16. Furthermore, the Wolverines are the better defensive team in this matchup, plus Florida State has been out-rebounded in all three tournament games.
After the game, Baird was the one to lead Michigan's players and coaches in "Hail to the Victors" in the locker room after game. Jordan Wood (2-1, 7.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) earned the win, while Drew Zimmerman recorded the final five outs to secure his second save.
Though this may be the deepest team left in the tournament with 10 regulars in rotation, finding somebody to step up alongside Mann and be an impact player is likely the difference between a trip to the Final Four or a long plane ride home.
