Rahul smashes record 14-ball 50 in IPL

Mohali:Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils will begin their journey in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a mouthwatering clash at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium and astrologer believes that DD will emerge victorious.

Earlier in the match, it was Gautam Gambhir impressing on his home return as the Delhi Daredevils captain, he was right up there holding his ground strongly, the southpaw scored 55 runs off 42 balls with the help of 5 boundaries and a six. Ashwin played alongside two spinners in Axar Patel and Mujeeb Ur Rahman and rotated his bowlers quite well. David Miller held one end nearly scoring run a ball 24 with only one boundary.

Rahul took just 14 deliveries to reach 50 and Karun Nair also made a half-century as the new-look Kings XI reached their target of 167 with seven balls to spare in the second game of the tournament. With the Karnataka trio of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair all being opening options, Miller could get the nod ahead of Gayle.

Rahul was in a complete destructive mood as he smashed six boundaries and four sixes in his knock that unsettled the DD bowlers initially.

They went into auction this year with a pretty clear mindset, unlike previous years when they used to go after one player so aggressively that they end up buying that player at such a huge price that even players were not able to justify their price tag. After he was dismissed by Trent Boult (3.5-34-1), KXIP cantered to victory with David Miller (24) and Marcus Stoinis (22) stitching up a partnership. It was certailny a great beginning to the season for Punjab under R Ashwin.

3;35 PM IST- For DD, there can be a little selection headache as Finch's best man, Glenn Maxwell, will also miss the match and, after Gautam Gambhir, the onus will be on Chris Morris, Colin Munro and Jason Roy to shoulder more responsibility. All-rounder Vijay Shankar and Chris Morris are the two all-rounders and much will depend on how the latter performs as he is a seasoned campaigner in this format. The two spinners for Delhi will be Amit Mishra and Shahbaz Nadeem, who have been decent performers for the franchise in the past as well.

However, the Delhi skipper did not get adequate support from his team mates.

"And I just wanted to take him on straight away because I knew that once the ball gets older, it gets harder for the batsmen down the order". He said the side boasts of some of "extremely risky cricket players" and "all match winners on their own".
